You know how little kids can just tell these wildly imaginative stories without even trying? Or is that just my kids? Well, I’m not like that. I need some help. Tell Tale is perfect for giving me the help I need to work on telling a story.

This game is a collection of cards with pictures on both sides of every card. No reading is needed for this game, which makes it great for any age. To play, just draw a few cards, and choose what order you want them in (and sides you want to use). Tell the story for how many pictures you have. Then the next person gets to draw a few cards and continue the story.

My kids tend to do a better job telling stories without this scaffolding, but it really helps me. And even though their stories aren’t as good with the pictures, they still really enjoy playing.
Educational benefits of Tell Tale
Tell Tale helps with storytelling. You could have your kids write down their stories, or you could write them down for them. Once written down, you could use your kids’ stories for their handwriting practice. You could select some of the words they used to work on spelling. Once written down, your kids could practice reading their own stories. You could even use Tell Tale to practice a foreign language!

While this is a very simple game, there are a lot of learning possibilities! In what ways does your family like to use Tell Tale? Do you have any other favorite storytelling games?
