How well do your family members know each other? Do you want to get to know each other better? If your family also enjoys Dr. Seuss, then you want to check out Oh, the Places You’ll Go! (It’s apparently not on Amazon, but is available on Walmart.com and eBay.com.)

Oh, the Places You’ll Go! is for two to four players. It could be played with more except only four pawns, answer tokens, and card trays are included. If you made (or purchased) extra card trays, answer tokens, and pawns, you could play with more people.

How to Play Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

Each player takes an answer token, a pawn, and matching card tray. They also each get four question tickets. Each player places their pawn on a start space (there are several around the board), and the first player rolls the dice.

On your turn, move your pawn however many spaces you roll. There are two dice, so players get some addition practice in. Be careful that you move the correct direction; each path is one-way only. If you are able to make it to a colored question space, you can discard a question ticket of the same color (if you have one) to have the player to your right ask you a question.

Not all Players Have to Read

If you have non-readers playing, that’s okay; you just need at least one person who can read the questions. To ask the question, draw two cards and place them in the question tablet. In a pinch, a non-reader can place the question cards carefully in the question tablet and then anyone can read the cards, including the person being asked the question.

The top of each card has an activity and the bottom of each card contains a path. Each player is attempting to create a contiguous path on their card tray. The question tablet covers the bottom of the cards, which is why the person being asked the question can read their own cards only after they are placed in the question tablet.

Would You Rather?

Each question is a “would you rather” type of question. Would you like to A) scuba dive at the wreck of a famous pirate ship or B) invent the hottest new fashion trend using stuff currently in your closet? Would you like to A) appear as an extra in an old west movie or B) create a popular sitcom based on all the embarrassing things you did in school?

There’s a fair amount of wasted space in this box.

The player being asked chooses which activity they would prefer and places their answer token on the table with either side A or B up, but covered by their hand. Every other player tries to guess what that player would have chosen and places their answer token accordingly, but still covered. When everyone is ready, answer tokens are revealed.

(I’m just now realizing that my sample path above is the same as this sample path. Paths can take any number of ups and downs; they just have to be continuous.)

If anyone else guessed correctly, the player whose turn it is gets to claim that card and place it in their card tray. All players who guessed correctly take one question ticket from the board.

Oh, the Places You’ll Go! is a relaxing game with low competition. My family enjoys learning more about each other and this is one of my daughter’s favorite games.
