How to Play Not Parent Approved

In all of these games, each player draws 7 cards (in Not Parent Approved, it’s the red cards). When it’s your turn, draw a blue card and read it out loud. Every other player then chooses one of their cards to place face down. Mix up the cards so you don’t know who each card came from and one by one, read your blue card and then one red card. Choose which red card you like the best, and whoever contributed that card gets to keep the blue card.
Many of the cards in this version are gross. Poop, farts, boogers, and hygiene (or lack thereof) are common themes, though not the only cards. There’s a reason this game is called “Not Parent Approved.” However, we have not come across any sexual cards, making it more appropriate than Cards Against Humanity.

How Well Do You Know Your Family Members?

All of these types of games are one part luck and one part knowing your fellow players. Luck, because you’re drawing random cards and sometimes you just have terrible cards. But you need to choose cards that you think your fellow players will choose, so these games work best with people you know well.
We purchased our game from the thrift store (surprise, surprise; that’s where we get most of our games now), but if you don’t want to have to pay for the game at all, Cards Against Humanity does allow you to download their game (and their family edition!) for free. It’ll take some printing and cutting, but it can be done!
