Does your family love Dungeons and Dragons? Or maybe you have a battle-obsessed child like mine. Either way, you’re going to love Dungeon Mayhem, by Dungeons & Dragons.

Play as one of four characters: barbarian, paladin, rogue, or wizard. However, unlike the original Dungeons and Dragons, Dungeon Mayhem is competitive. Actually, it’s rather cutthroat.
How to Play Dungeon Mayhem

Each player has a cheat-sheet card summarizing what each symbol means. Other than the rules, this is the only place reading is needed. There is also a hit point tracker. The goal is to be the last one with hit points, so each player’s main goal is to attack other players and remove their hit points.
Each player has their own set of cards, and they’re not the same. Rather, they’re catered to the character. For example, the barbarian can Rage and has lots of other cards that do a ton of damage but only has 5 cards in their whole deck that can heal. The wizard has cards that switch hit points with another player.
Luck Versus Skill
There is luck in that you have to (usually) work with whatever cards you draw, but there is also a fair amount of skill and familiarity with your deck that is required. There is one expansion set of two more characters and a monster set with six characters, so you could potentially play with more people, but this game is probably best with less than six players. However, having more characters to choose from will provide more variety.
My family has to be careful when playing games like Dungeon Mayhem. It can be hard to watch the health of your character plummeting and feel like there isn’t anything you can do. Potato Pirates is another game that starts with a certain number of points and they mostly just drain away. However, if your family has excellent sportsmanship and can handle “take that” sort of games, then Dungeon Mayhem is sure to be a winner!
