For the longest time, I was hesitant about escape room games. I was nervous about the single-use aspect as I’m someone who does best when I get a chance to learn how to play a game. However, I finally tried Finders Seekers and a couple Exit the Game games and I was hooked! The puzzles, riddles, and logic are so much fun for me. But the single-use aspect (and their expense!) still bothered me. Enter Escape Academy.
Escape Academy is a video game (no material waste! Hurray!) that can be played solo, online (with friends; a game invitation code is needed, so no random strangers), or locally on one device but with another player. I’m not a video gamer, so I struggle with the controls and navigating the virtual world, but it’s so much fun to solve the puzzles.
Escape Academy is Well-Worth the Price
There are time limits and “grades” (which I HATE!), but if you ignore them and just go at your pace, you can still play the game. If you run out of time, you can choose to keep going with more time.
For about the price of one Exit the Game, Escape Academy provides at least 12 escape rooms, and they have two add-ons with five games each, too! Plus, since this is a digital game, you can start a new game as many times as you’d like (though the puzzles will still be the same, so you won’t get new gameplay).
Overall, I will tolerate my discomfort with the video game format for more escape rooms. As a bonus, we downloaded Escape Academy when it was free on Epic Games and the expansions when they were 50% off. For $15 (two copies; one for my husband and one for me), we got access to over 20 escape rooms!
