A staggering 8 people can play CAMP, although since you don’t get to do anything when it’s not your turn, it might not be very fun. We played with all 4 of us and it was a lot of fun.

Everyone starts around the campfire, there is a path around the board, and you end at the campfire again. There is also a clubhouse partway through the path that you can be sent to.

CAMP game components

Just over half the spaces on the path have white footmarks, indicating you don’t have to do anything. There are 6 “Go To CAMP Clubhouse” spaces, sending you forward or back to the clubhouse. (Two of the spaces are before the Clubhouse, sending you forward on the path; the other 4 are after the Clubhouse and send you back.)

The space at the intersection has a compass on it. Some of the trivia cards have a picture of a compass on them. If you answer one of these questions correctly, you get the special compass card. If you get to the compass space and you have the compass card (you don’t have to land on the space), you get to take the shortcut. My son (who had been last) was able to do this and ended up winning, though the rest of us followed not too long after.

The rest of the spaces have green feet, indicating you need to answer a trivia question. If you answer it correctly, you get to go again! At one point in the game, my daughter kept rolling to move to the next set of green feet and had something like 6 turns in a row. She was all set to win, but then landed on a “Go To CAMP Clubhouse” space right before the campfire and had to go back to the Clubhouse.

Trivia Cards

The trivia cards are unique in that there are 4 levels of increasing difficulty. We each chose a different level to play at. We’re a fairly outdoorsy family with a lot of our homeschooling focusing on natural environments (we love our national parks!), so most of the questions were really easy for us. The big exceptions were the questions about fish; none of us know very much about fish.

I can barely make out the B in this picture.

There is a decoder to put over the trivia card to find out the answer. The answer was easy for my kids and me to read, but my husband was never able to decipher the answer. However, as long as you have one person in your group with good vision, you’ll be good. (This is actually interesting because my vision is worse than my husband’s; I’m the one who wears glasses. But my husband has really bad low-light vision. I think there is not a lot of contrast when you try to read the answer.)

When we purchased our game used from the thrift store, it was missing the CAMP decoder. I emailed the company, asking if I could purchase a replacement, and they sent me a new one and a new set of cards, completely free of charge. I was so impressed with their amazing customer service.

Overall, my family really enjoys CAMP. This was also one of the quicker games for us; it only took us about 20 minutes to play it. We’ll be keeping our game, though we did bag it as the box had a lot of wasted space.
