For music students, rhythmic proficiency is so important. There are many ways to practice rhythms, and Measure Up is just one more way. However, it is just a small deck of cards, so readily stored.

How to play Measure Up!
Each player is dealt seven cards. The rest of the cards are placed face-down in a pile in the center. The top card is turned face up in a discard pile.
On their turn, each player begins by choosing one new card. They can either take the discarded faceup card, or the top facedown card from the draw pile. If they can make a “trick” (a complete measure, including the time signature), they place them face up in front of them. Last, every player must discard a card.
Once a player has at least one trick in front of them, they can take more than one card from the discard pile. If a card further down the discard pile will complete a trick for them, they can take that card, with every card on top of it, into their hand. Play then proceeds as normal.
When one player has used all their cards, the game is over. Points are calculated based on how many cards you have in front of you and how many you still have in your hand. For every card in front of you, you gain a point, and each card in your hand subtracts a point. Whoever has the most points wins.

Great for music students
I will admit that I haven’t played Measure Up! with my kids. My kids are not as interested in music as me, so it’s not something we’ve stressed. However, when I taught private violin lessons, my students enjoyed playing this game during group classes. It will work best with students who have some familiarity with rhythms.

Hi! I was wondering if you knew where I could purchase this game? It looks fantastic!

I’m sorry, I don’t have any control over when games are available. I did find it at another website: https://innovationsmusic.com/product/measure-up?srsltid=AfmBOooMSfDLinTZokXJq5T4j9M6mO4-MzL7OukvmCbdNeMNrUqvCG2B A few other websites did mention that the game is out of print. Maybe you can find it at a thrift store?
