If you want a way to help introduce your kids to world geography and other countries and cultures in a fun way, I can’t recommend Where To? enough!

When my kids were little, I got them a subscription to Little Passports. At the time, they only offered a few different subscriptions, but we went with their World Traveler option. I always hated geography and social studies as a kid, and wanted a way to introduce these subjects in a fun and engaging way. My kids loved Little Passports, and when I saw they had a game, I knew we had to have it!

Family favorite

Where To? has a huge game board.

Well, I wasn’t disappointed. Little Passport’s Where To? is still my favorite world geography game. We have others that are more complete, but this one is fun, not overly competitive, and includes some information about the cultures.

Even though the game board is quite large, it folds up so well that the game itself is very compact in its little box. I love that there’s not a lot of wasted space. This was one game that got to keep its box. That, and I kept expecting to need to rehome Where To?. Considering how much I enjoy it, I’m not sure why I thought that.

The box is relatively compact, especially considering how large the game board is.

How to play Where To?

Gameplay is designed for up to four players, though it’d be easy to have more people play it. You’d just need an extra pawn. The Travel Journals just have five spaces to place the cards from the cities you’ve visited. Any extra players could easily just have their cards in front of them.

There are four kinds of spaces on the board: cities, “Traveler’s Luck,” scooter spaces (that are also cities), and then extra spots in between the target cities. At the beginning of the game, each player received two “Destinations” cards. These are your target cities. You roll the die to make your way to one of your target cities. When you land on it, you get to place it on your “Travel Journal.”

An introduction to cultures, too

Where To? Celebration cards
These cards are mixed into the Destination cards, but when anyone draws them, they’re placed on the board and whoever gets to that location first gets to claim them!

My favorite part of the game are the Destination cards. Each card has the city name, country, a small map of the continent (just an outline), and a description and picture of something you did in that city. I love this addition, that gently exposes players to a variety of different cultures.

The world map and the cards are color-coded based on the continent. I would prefer if country lines were also drawn, but it’s still a great introduction. We have puzzles for learning countries, too.

If your kids know and love Sam and Sophia, then Where To? is definitely the perfect game for you! If they don’t, I highly recommend trying out another of Little Passport‘s offerings when you get this game, because it’s still the perfect world geography game for anyone!
